New York Times contributor and Google analyst Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, PhD found that you are more likely to be famous if you grew up in a large city or a university city. Three of the six university cities (Lexington, Ann Arbor, Madison) landed in his top 3% for producing famous and accomplished people — as defined by having a Wikipedia entry.
